SUMMARY:Holiday Wreath Class
DESCRIPTION:Join the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates for their first annual Wreath Class with Heritage Art and Craft Studio. Discover the art of creating a stunning Williamsburg-inspired wreath\, combining herbs with seasonal elements\, perfect for enhancing your indoor or outdoor holiday decor. In this hands-on workshop\, you will learn to craft a beautiful\, aromatic wreath. We will combine fresh\, fragrant pine with natural and organic elements\, harvested herbs\, dried apple slices and ribbon on a 14-inch grapevine wreath. Beyond the wreath creation\, participants will also gain knowledge about the process of growing\, harvesting\, and drying herbs\, as well as gathering natural materials. Participants are welcome to follow our example or create their own unique arrangement. All materials are provided. \nHeritage Art and Craft Studio is co-owned by Greg Geesaman and Peggy Allen-Geesaman. For over fifty years\, Greg has dedicated himself to the study of American History\, as well as gardening\, landscaping\, agriculture\, and environmental preservation. He shares his knowledge with others through educational seminars\, classes\, and workshops. Peggy\, a native of Berks County\, has dedicated over 30 years to teaching art and crafts. Before launching her own business in the 1990s\, she worked in retail marketing. While she offers a wide range of classes\, her true passion lies in Traditional American crafts. She stays informed of current historical trends as a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD). \nRegistration is required for the workshop\, and a form can be obtained by emailing us at thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com. Daniel Boone Homestead Associate Members $45 and Non-Members $50. All supplies are included. All proceeds go to support the Daniel Boone Homestead. Space is limited to 10 participants. SUMMARY:A Homestead Holiday
DESCRIPTION:For many families in eighteenth century America\, Christmas was a time for celebration\, feasting\, and frivolity. Join us at the Daniel Boone Homestead and experience Christmas as it was almost 300 years ago with your family and friends. Visitors can learn about English and Pennsylvania German holiday celebrations\, visit with Santa and the Belsnickel\, and enjoy Christmas crafts and activities. Throughout the historic area\, visitors will hear about the different Christmas traditions of the families who lived on the property throughout the eighteenth century as they tour the festively decorated buildings. \nVisitors are invited to tour the Boone House and enjoy the English and German parlors festively decorated for the season. Visit the blacksmith hard at work in his shop and the Homestead Barn as you walk up to the Bertolet Log House. This Pennsylvania German log cabin will be open for tours and visitors can learn about its unique architectural history. Make sure to save time for a visit and picture with Santa. There will also be holiday crafts and activities for children\, including a Christmas scavenger hunt through the Historic Area and quill pen writing letters to Santa. After completing the hunt\, children will be able to receive a holiday treat bag. Visitors of all ages will enjoy holiday swag making by the Penn State Master Gardeners. And keep an eye out for the Belsnickel who will stop by the Homestead for a visit! The Belsnickel\, part of eighteenth-century rural Pennsylvania German Christmas lore\, is much different from today’s jolly\, old Santa Claus. \nDon’t miss this great opportunity to take a stroll through Christmas Past and enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned\, good cheer! Complimentary hot chocolate and hot wassail will also be available throughout the afternoon. Admission will be charged for the event. Children 5 and under and DBHA members are free. Please\, no pets and no smoking. The event is presented and funded by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.
